Boxford U10 Travel Program

The Boxford Athletic Association Soccer Board is announcing that U10 travel soccer will again be offered for the Fall 2004 season in addition to the Boxford U10 intramural program. There will be a maximum of two U10 travel teams for boys and two U10 travel teams for girls. U10 travel is considered a supplement to the intramural program for those children who can't get enough soccer.

The BAA is not replacing, reducing, or eliminating the successful U10 intramural program now in place. The intramural program has proven to be a great way for our children to develop their soccer skills, be with many of their friends, and enjoy the game. Many parents concur that it's not necessary to drive to Revere or Marblehead on a Saturday for a game of soccer. The intramural program has also fostered a great junior referee program, which has grown in numbers over the years.

TRAVEL COMMITMENT:
Typically intramural teams have one practice a week and a game on Saturday.  U10 travel teams, as is the case with the majority of travel teams, will have two practices a week and a game on Saturday.  In an 8 week season, usually 4 of the games will be at home and the other 4 will be away.  Coaches are encouraged to attend a tournament in the fall and a tournament in the spring which is usually held during a holiday weekend.  If you feel that the above increased commitment would fit into your families schedule then the next step would be to attend the tryouts.

TRYOUTS AND TEAM SELECTION: Tryouts for U10 travel will be held Friday, June 15th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Chadwick Field and Saturday, June 16th, 5:30 - 7:30pm at Chadwick Field. Rain date for either tryout date is Sunday June 17th, 5;30 - 7;30 pm at Chadwick Field. Spaces on the U10 travel teams are limited -- team selection will be completed by a committee approved by the BAA Soccer Board. The criteria for selection are a willingness to participate with the increased time commitment, current coach's evaluation, and tryout performance.

REGISTRATION: If you wish your child to be considered for U10 travel, register for U10 intramural. If your child is selected for a U10 travel team, you will be contacted and billed the additional costs.

If you have any questions, please contact your current coach or the appropriate U10 age group director: Paul Jung (boys) 978-887-6304; Kieth Sampson (girls) 978-352-4819.
