Masco 8-year-old baseball team wins Hamilton-Wenham tournament

The Masco 8-year-old baseball team won a hard-fought extra innings battle against Danvers American on July 22 to win the championship game of the Hamilton-Wenham Tournament 8-year-old division.

Masco fell behind 1-0 early before taking the lead in the top of the second inning. Back to back singles by Tyler Feldberg (Middleton) and Aidan Holland (Topsfield) was followed by a line shot double to right field by Andrew Downing (Middleton) scoring both Tyler and Aidan.

Ben Harding and Chris Itz (both from Topsfield) pitched extremely well in the first three plus innings to keep the score tied. 

In the fourth inning, a base hit by Gabe Fales (Middleton) followed by a steal of second and third put him into scoring position. He then scored on a hit by Ben Harding giving Masco the lead once again, 3-2.

Dylan Cole (Middleton) came in to pitch the fourth and hurled two solid innings in relief.  In  the bottom of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded, Aidan Holland made a fantastic diving catch at second base to end the inning and keep the game tied at 3-3.

In the sixth inning Masco went up 5-3 on a single from Brendan Bazazi (Middleton), and walks to Remmi Cote (Boxford), Kalvin Tragathon (Boxford) and Gabe Fales followed by a hit by pitch of Sadie Canelli (Boxford).

Danvers would fight back and tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending the game into extra innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, Masco loaded the bases on a hit from Aidan Holland, walks to Andrew Downing, Nick Teller (Middleton) and Anthony Cerbone (Middleton).

Aidan Holland stole home followed by a groundout by Brendan Bazazi, allowing Andrew to score putting Masco up 7-5. Aidan Holland came in to pitch the seventh inning and close out Danvers to secure the victory for Masco 7-5.
