Masco Youth Field Hockey will host a Summer Clinic this year at the Turf at Boxford Commons.  It will be a clinic run by current College coaches/players, Club coaches, and Masco varsity players.

Who

Any girl from any town entering grades 4-8th in the fall, who wish to try field hockey out or sharpen their skills for the fall season.  

When

June 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th 

Time

9am-12pm

Cost

$150 for 12 hours of professional coaching (no parent volunteers) and a Masco Pinnie!

Field hockey sticks are available to loan to athletes who wish to try it out. 

All Athletes must come with field hockey shin guards (different from Soccer) a mouth guard, and goggles (lacrosse goggles ok for this clinic).  

FYI This clinic is in the place of the one usually held by the Masco Chieftains. A portion of the profits will go to the Masco Field Hockey program as a Thank You for the girls volunteering to help with the clinic.

2018 Field Hockey Information

 

Masco Youth Field Hockey is open to girls in grades K through 8 who live in Boxford, Middleton or Topsfield.  The program strives to teach fundamentals and develop enthusiasm for field hockey. 

The mission of Masco Youth Field Hockey is to provide an opportunity for enthusiastic participation at all levels of ability and we are excited to offer the following for the 2018 season.

Opening day is Sept 9th, 2018 on Boxford Commons!!

We are looking for Volunteers/coaching/assistants. Please reach out to Carla Husak at myfh2018@gmail.com with questions.


Intramural K-2

Practices will be held 3 times per week, however, players will pick the day/s of the week they will attend at the beginning of the season, however, you may attend all.  These practices will be on turf. This allows players who play multiple sports an opportunity to try field hockey. One practice each week will be hosted by a special coach. 

 Schedule:

Mondays 5-6pm at  Danvers Indoor Sports  (150 Andover Street, Danvers MA 01923)

Thursdays 5-6pm at  Danvers Indoor Sports 

Sunday 8:30-9:30am at Boxford Commons 

 

Intramural 3-4

Practices will be held 2 times per week on both on turf fields. Please note for this age group there are limited developed programs in Massachusetts and the North Shore for these specific ages so games will be limited. Scrimmages 7 v 7 would be on Sunday.  We will continue to strive to arrange out of town games and experiences for this group. 

All teams will be balanced by skill and age.

Schedule:

Wednesday 5-6pm at Danvers Indoor Sports ( 150 South Andover Street, Danvers MA 

Thursday 5-6pm at Danvers Indoor Sports

Sunday Games 9:30-10: 30 am at Boxford Commons

 Practices will be held 2 times per week both on Turf.  7v7 Game play on Sunday. All teams will be balanced by skill and age. We will continue to strive to create a game schedule that allows adequate out of town competition.

Monday 5:00-6pm at Danvers Indoor Sports (150 Andover Street, Danvers MA 01923)

Wednesdays 5:00-6pm at Danvers Indoor Sports

Sunday Games 8:30-11: 30 am Boxford Commons. The game schedule will come out the Friday before the Sunday Games, you will play during your time slot only but please keep the three-hour time slot open for as much play as possible.  We will try to fill the space/time as much as we can.

Tournaments may be available. Coaches will be providing information and organizing. 


Intramural 7th-8th

This year the committee has decided to combine the 7th and 8th grade players.  We will be forming equally balanced and skilled teams.  We will have 1 practice, one away game day, and home Sunday games.  Our goal is to incorporate our program with local middle school leagues, teams, and Clubs.  This provides our girls with opportunities for highly competitive play.

Schedule: 

Tuesday 3:00-5:00 at Boxford Commons

Thursday 3:30-5:30 Away local games

Sunday Games 8:30-11: 30 am at Boxford Commons.  Game schedule will be sent the Friday before the Sunday Games.  You will be playing during your time slot only but please keep the 3 hours free for as much play as possible.  We will try to fill the space/time as much as we can.

Tournaments may be available. Coaches will be providing information upon availability. 

 

SAFETY & EQUIPMENT

Safety is most important.  All field hockey players, no matter the age or experience level, must adhere to the Equipment Policy in order to take the field. Our equipment policy is as follows: field hockey stick, cleats for outdoor field play, Turf shoes for Boxford Commons, " molded" mouth guard, protective eye gear, field hockey shin guards. Please note - soccer shin guards are NOT considered appropriate gear for field hockey!!!

UNIFORMS:

Uniforms are for grades 3-8th. 

New uniforms will be required for returning players.  We are changing the Uniforms this year.

They are purchases separate from registration. 

You will need to buy White and Black socks for the season.

VOLUNTEERS & COACHING CLINIC

The success of our program is highly dependent upon our volunteers. We are looking for help in a variety of ways - Please contact us if you can help in any way.  


To be a coach you are not expected to have played field hockey nor be a field hockey expert.  Please do not be concerned. We will be hosting a field hockey fundamentals class prior to the start of the season. A CORI form must be completed annually for all of our coaching volunteers.

Player Conduct

Masco Youth Field Hockey Player Standards of Conduct

  

“Play for the name on the front of your shirt and people will start to remember the name on the back”

 

What is Sportsmanship.  “Sportsmanshiplike behavior are actions and or demeanor which promote positive qualities in both victory and defeat.  Examples of such qualities are fairness, courtesy, cooperation, decency, dignity and integrity and respect yourself and others.  A willingness to abide by program and sport rules and regulations at all times.

 

Definition of unsportsmanship behavior include a refusal to adhere to know stated program and sports rules and procedures.  Inappropriate demonstration of disagreement with officials, coaches, teammates, opponents, others and includes inappropriate language, profanity, loud and/or demonstrative displays, such as booing, verbal and/or physical threats and assaults towards opponents and/or teammates.  Any action or attitude which results or is intended to result in disrespect for, or the reduction of authority of, officials and/or game/field officials.

 

Masco Youth Field Hockey has the responsibility to “require” sportsmanlike behavior from players.

 

  1. Learn the rules of the game and play by them
  2. Never argue with the officials decisions.  Please let your coach ask any questions on your behalf.
  3. Control your temper, especially when things do not go your way.
  4. Work hard to improve your skills.  Work equally hard for yourself and your team.  Your team’s performance will benefit as well as your own.
  5. Be gracious when you win, be gracious when you loose.
  6. Be on time for your practices and games.  IF you are not able to attend, give your coach as much advance notice of your absences so they can plan accordingly.
  7. Display good sportsmanship at all times on and off the field.  Set a positive example.  Remember you were little once and now the younger girls are watching you!
  8. Give 100% effort at each practice and game
  9. Support and encourage your teammates.  Field Hockey is a TEAM sport and you should all strive to be team players.
  10. Know the rules of the game and take time to stop and learn them if you have questions.
  11. Wear the required gear at all games and practices and take good care of your equipment
  12. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes
  13. Be modest in victory and humble in defeat
  14. Obscene language will not be tolerated!!!!!!  This includes your teammates!
  15. Avoid bodily contact that may cause injury to others or myself.
  16. Do not commit any act that could be considered unsportsmanlike conduct 
  17. Have fun at all times
  18. Respect your coaches
  19. Thank your parents for getting you here and for supporting you
  20. Learn from your coaches
  21. Practice hard
  22. Believe in yourself
  23. Play smart
  24. Be the best teammate you can be!
  25. Have fun
  26. Love what you do!
  27. Don’t aspire to be the best on the team, aspire to be the BEST FOR THE TEAM

 

Failure to comply to the standards the following consqueces will apply.

  1. Verbal discussion and a warning by coach, game official or Program Director.
  2. Reduction in playing time
  3. Dismissal from the practice/game/tournament by coach, official or Program Director.
  4. Suspension from one or more games by coach or Program Director
  5. Exclusion from that sport for the remainder of the season by Program Director.
